Summer green manure plants: which seeds to use for summer green manure and all the practical tips to fertilize the soil with the green manure technique.
Thegreen manureit is strongly recommended with sowing in autumn and mowing in spring, just before the flowering of green manure plants. The autumn green manure is very convenient because it protects the land in winter rest. Plus, in the fall, green manure plants don't have to compete with too many weeds.
The autumn green manure is typically used during the rest of the ground or for the green manure in the vineyard, to be sown at the end of the harvest. The summer green manure and spring is mainly used for the preparation of the seedbed and takes place in shorter times.
Sowing of summer and spring green manure
On the contrary, thesummer green manureand thatspring, they see more competition. For this reason, the broadcasting of green manure mixtures must be carried out in a dense way and as uniformly as possible.
In general, the green manure plants they have a good ability to compete with the spontaneous weeds typical of the summer period, however a more uniform sowing will help you to carry on the cultivation of only the botanical species useful for the soil.

Spring green manure plants
A mixture of seeds of spring green manure plants could include Alexandrian clover, sweet clover officinalis, sainfoin, incarnate clover, alfalfa, resupinated trifolium, buckwheat, horseradish, facela, vicia villosa, and minimal percentages of calendula, serradella, coriander, kornardo, cumin, fennel, dill and rocket salad.
Bury the green manure plants
To get the maximum benefit from green manuring and to better incorporate the plant mass into the soil, the best time to bury the plant mass occurs when the green manure plants are about to bloom. With fast-growing plants such as summer ones (buckwheat is an example), it could take as little as 30 days from sowing to planting.
The vegetable mass should not be buried deeply: it is sufficient to incorporate the grass clippings to a depth of 10 - 15 cm. If buried deeper, due to poor oxygenation of the deeper layers of the soil, there may be problems with decomposition with insufficient humus formation.
Bury the green manure with the rotary hoe
To bury the plant part, agricultural tools such as the disc harrow, spading machine or rotary hoe can be used.
The rotary hoe is an indispensable tool for garden care. Excellent for the preparation of the seedbed, for working the soil, for burying organic matter and for the green manure technique.
Among the various products on the market I would like to point out the Einhell GC-RT rotary hoe. 1440 with electric power supply. In the purchase package there are six different cutters, for the green manure technique you will need to use the disc ones shown in the photo above.
This tool in garden centers is offered at a price of about 150 euros. Yes Amazon is bought with 133.89 euros and free shipping costs. Of course, it is a small investment but definitely useful for facilitating the cleaning and maintenance of the garden.
