How many types of wine exist and what are the names based on the type of grape. Here is the list of the main Italian and French wines and the most important wines in the world.

We start with a general classification because itypes of winethey are innumerable and vary according to the quality of the grapes as well as the production process.

Red wines

They are made from pressed red berried grapes. Throughout the alcoholic fermentation process, the skins (marcs) remain in contact with the must for a variable period ranging from a few days (for young wines) to two weeks for important wines.

White wines

Not everyone knows that white wines can also be made from red berried grapes. Generally white wines are obtained by pressing white grapes but there are also some white wines obtained by lightly pressing red grapes. The light pressing allows to obtain a grape-free must.

Rosé wines

Rosé wines are obtained from a very short maceration of red grapes, the marc is almost immediately removed from the must. Rosé wines require particular attention to give a color that is neither too intense nor too light. Rosé wines should be consumed within a year and substantially go well with delicate dishes.

Sparkling wines

They are obtained mainly from white grapes or red grapes vinified without pomace (white vinification), lo sparkling wineit's atype of winewhich has undergone a double fermentation process; special yeasts are added to the grapes which cause a second fermentation called "foaming". There are manytypes of sparkling winebut which originate from two different production methods.

With the Charmat method, the second fermentation takes place at high pressure, in an autoclave. This method is used for both aromatic type grapes Moscato or Brachetto, both for i semi-dry or dry like theprosecco.

In the Classic Method, of French origin, fermentation takes place entirely in the bottles. Only for sparkling wines produced in France, in the region ofChampagne, it is possible to use the term Champenois.

New wines

They are obtained with the carbonic maceration technique. This practice consists in pressing the whole bunches of ripe grapes, placed to macerate in the absence of oxygen. THEnew wineswhich come on the market in November, should be consumed by the end of the following winter. They are very fragrant but the fragrance lasts a few months.

Passito wines

They are obtained from the late vinification, generally performed between January and February, of grapes dried on the plant or on special racks. In this context, noble rot becomes relevant, that is, a metabolic process of the fungus of the "gray grape mold" which in particular conditions increases the sugar concentration of raisins, enhancing their quality.

Fortified wines

Forliqueur wineswe mean those wines to which alcohol has been added such as Marsala. There are also sweet liqueur wines.
